The Long Island Scale Model Society is excited to announce that we will be hosting NorEastCon
2010 – the annual IPMS Region 1 convention, on April 30 and May 1, 2010 – and will extend a
FULL TWO DAYS! This marks the first time in over 25 years that a NorEastCon show has been
held on Long Island. To mark this milestone, we have worked to provide a unique event for our
visitors.
The American Airpower Museum has graciously offered the use of their facility for NorEastCon
2010. The American Airpower Museum, located at Republic Airport, brings history to life.
Housed in an historic Republic Aviation hangar, entering the museum will transport you back to
1944. Operational aircraft, re-enactors in period dress, and a variety of displays tell the story of
the brave men and women who won the Second World War. Admission to the museum and
exhibits is included with your contest admission.
For our out-of-town guests, we recommend the new Marriott Townplace Suites, conveniently
located at the airport on Route 110. The hotel will provide complementary shuttle service to the
museum, as well as to the Farmingdale LIRR train station. The rooms at the Marriott feature pullout
sofa beds, and larger, two-bedroom suites, with sofa bed and kitchenette, are also available.
Our Friday evening get-together will be hosted in the spacious Marriott Lounge.
The Saturday evening Awards Banquet will be held in the 56th Fighter Group Restaurant, just a
short walk from the Marriott. The 56th features World War II period décor, overlooking the
Republic Airport runways, and an outdoor patio where you can enjoy your cocktails surrounded
by WWII fighters. We will be able to accommodate 140 guests for dinner, so make your plans
early!
When you are not at the show, Long Island features many attractions for the entire family. The
Cradle of Aviation Museum, as well as the Long Island Children’s Museum, are located a short
drive away at Mitchell Field. Roosevelt Field and Huntington Mall are just two of the many
shopping centers in the area. If you will have young children with you, be sure to visit
Adventureland Amusement Park, just minutes away from the Marriott. Long Island is also famous
for its many parks and beaches, all conveniently located.
With so much to do, we plan to open the show early Friday afternoon. We will feature a large
contest area, room for over 50 vendor tables, seminars, raffles and much more. We will continue
our tradition of accepting donated items for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan – model kits,
supplies, and sundry items have been generously donated in the past.
Start making your plans now – you will not want to miss NorEastCon 2010. This will be a unique
event, one that you will remember for years to come! There are many shows to choose from, but
none will match the excitement and atmosphere of NorEastCon 2010. Come and see hundreds of
models, shop the large group of vendors, and share the enjoyment with fellow modelers who
share your passion for the hobby, all in a setting you won’t forget!
